Operation Entebbe (also known as the Yonatan Operation (Hebrew: מבצע יונתן‎), the Entebbe Raid or Operation Thunderbolt) was a counter-terrorism hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on the night of 3 July and early morning of 4 July 1976.

Operation Entebbe (also known as the Yonatan Operation (Hebrew: מבצע יונתן‎), the Entebbe Raid or Operation Thunderbolt) was a counter-terrorism hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on the night of 3 July and early morning of 4 July 1976.

Air France Flight 139, leaving Sunday June 27th 1976, never reached its destination.

The flight with 246 passengers and crew was hijacked to Uganda and there held by terrorists at Entebbe Airport.

On July 4th 1976, Sayeret Matkal, under the command of Yohonatan Netanyahu embarked on a daring raid on Entebbe, Uganda to rescue the hostages.

This brilliant, courageous, historic mission originally named Operation Thunderbolt is now known as Operation Yohonatan, named after the mission's commander who lost his life.

The movie, a dramatic cinema production recreating the daring raid, was produced and filmed with the full cooperation of the Israeli government and military.
